THE DANGER OF SELF-EXALTATION

Scripture Focus: Genesis 10:8-10
Nimrod, described in Genesis 10:8-10, was a mighty man, but not in the sense of
righteousness. His might was rooted in rebellion, as his name implies, and he sought to
dominate others and establish his kingdom independent of God. He hunted men, not animals,
using his influence to control and lead a revolt against God, culminating in the construction of
the tower of Babel. This mirrors the spirit of Lucifer, who sought to exalt himself above God.
God calls us to have dominion over the earth, not over fellow humans. The desire to control,
manipulate, or exalt oneself above others is contrary to God’s will. As John the Baptist declared
in John 3:30, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” True greatness comes from humility and
letting God reign in our lives, not from exalting ourselves.
Prayer: Lord, keep me humble and help me to resist the spirit of pride and self-exaltation. Teach
me to honor You and seek Your glory above all else. Amen.
