BEWARE OF THE SPIRIT OF SELF-GLORIFICATION

Scripture Focus: Genesis 11:1-9
In Genesis 11, the people united to build a tower reaching heaven, an act that seemed harmless
on the surface. However, the foundation was wrong. They neither sought God’s approval nor
aligned their actions with His purpose. Instead, their motives were self-centered: “Let us make a

name for ourselves” (Genesis 11:4). Their focus on self rather than God revealed the spirit of
Babylon; a desire for personal glory and independence from God.
As believers, anything we do to glorify ourselves rather than God becomes an act of rebellion.
When our careers, families, or aspirations become avenues for self-promotion, we tread the
dangerous path of pride. God alone deserves the glory, for He will not share His honor with
anyone (Isaiah 42:8). Let every action, goal, and achievement reflect our desire to honor Him
above all.
Prayer: Lord, help me to always seek Your glory in all I do. Keep me from the pride of self-
glorification, and teach me to live for You alone. Amen.
