Scripture Focus: Genesis 13:10-14; James 1:17
Lot chose for himself. Without prayer, without seeking God’s guidance, he simply lifted his eyes
and took what appeared to be the best land (Genesis 13:10-11). In contrast, Abram waited on
God. After Lot had separated from him, God instructed Abram to lift his eyes, not in self-will, but
in divine direction. Twice, God emphasized, “I will give it to you” (Genesis 13:15, 17).
There is a difference between grabbing what looks good and receiving what God has prepared.
Lot made his decision based on sight, but true blessings come from trusting God’s provision, not
human calculation. Many times, impatience leads people to take matters into their own hands,
but James 1:17 reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes from above. Trust God, what
He gives is always better than what you could take for yourself.
Prayer: Lord, help me not to take what looks good in my own eyes but to receive what You have
prepared for me. Teach me to trust in Your timing and provision. Amen.
