Scripture Focus: Genesis 14:18-20; Ephesians 1:3
It is worth noting that Melchizedek was the first person to bless Abram without Abram doing
anything in return. Many times, believers fall into the trap of thinking they must give something
to God to earn His blessings, but that is not how it works. Melchizedek simply blessed Abram,
showing that God’s blessings are not bought; they are freely given.
However, after receiving the blessing, Abram responded with gratitude by giving a tithe to
Melchizedek. This is the right order: God blesses us first, and then we give out of love and
thankfulness, not as a transaction. True giving is not about manipulating God to give back, it is a
response to what He has already done. Grace always comes before giving.
Prayer: Lord, help me to understand that Your blessings are a gift, not something I must earn.
Teach me to give from a heart of love, not out of obligation. Amen.
