Scripture Focus: Genesis 15:1; Matthew 6:19-21
After Abram refused the wealth of Sodom, God Himself appeared to him with a powerful
assurance: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward” (Genesis
15:1). This is the first time in Scripture that the phrase “Do not be afraid” appears. It came after
Abram chose God over temporary riches, a lesson that earthly wealth is fleeting, but God is
eternal.
Many chase after financial security, thinking riches will bring peace, yet true security is in God
alone. When you reject compromising wealth, you gain something far greater; God, as your
portion. Abram did not lose anything by refusing Sodom’s offer; instead, he received a personal
revelation of God’s provision. When we trust God completely, He becomes our shield, our
source, and our ultimate reward.
Prayer: Lord, You are my portion and my reward. Help me to value You above material gain and
trust in Your provision always. Amen.
