Scripture Focus: Genesis 20:6; Romans 1:24 to 26
God told Abimelech, “Yes, I know that you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept you from sinning against Me” (Genesis 20:6). God intervened because of the integrity of Abimelech’s heart. This was not the same as Jude 24, where God keeps believers from falling. In this case, God prevented a sin from happening because Abimelech unknowingly walked into it.
However, this does not mean God always stops people from sinning. If a person is determined to follow their own desires, God allows them to do so, as seen in Romans 1:24, where He gave people over to their sinful passions. This is why guarding the heart is important. A heart set on pleasing God invites divine help, but a heart set on rebellion is left to its own destruction.
Prayer:
Lord, keep my heart pure before You. Help me to desire righteousness so that I do not walk into sin. Let my heart be sensitive to Your correction. Amen.
