Scripture Focus: Genesis 27:19 to 20; Romans 3:7 to 8
When Isaac asked Jacob how he returned so quickly, Jacob replied, “Because the Lord thy God
brought it to me.” (Genesis 27:20). But it was a lie. Jacob had just deceived his father,
pretending to be Esau. He used God’s name to cover his deceit. This is dangerous. When we
lie, cheat, or manipulate to get something, we cannot turn around and call it God’s blessing.
God does not need help through sin. His promises are fulfilled in righteousness.
Jacob received what God had promised, but not in the way God intended. And though the
blessing was real, the consequences were deep; division, exile, and broken trust. Today, some
still do the same: compromise, manipulate, and then testify that “God did it.” We must be careful
not to credit God for what we obtained through fleshly tactics. If it came through lying, it did not
come through God. Let God be God. Wait on Him. Trust His timing and His ways. His blessings
add no sorrow when they come His way.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to wait for Your promises Your way. Keep me from using lies to claim what You
did not send. Amen.
