Why Did You Keep Quiet?

Scripture Focus:

“And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he rent his
clothes.” – Genesis 37:29
Reuben knew his brothers were wrong. He heard their plan to kill Joseph and stepped in, but
only partially. He suggested throwing Joseph into a pit instead of killing him, hoping to rescue
him later, but he never voiced the truth, he never firmly stood against their evil, he left Joseph in
the pit and walked away. Sadly, when he returned, it was too late, Joseph had been sold. The
opportunity to do right was gone, and Reuben was left with deep regret. His silence, though less
violent than their actions, still made him an accomplice.
When truth is ignored, evil advances. Many believers today watch wrongdoing in silence, hoping
things will resolve themselves. But like Reuben, if you delay speaking up, you may miss the
chance to make a difference. Speak when it matters. Refuse to side with evil by your silence.
Don’t be afraid to stand for righteousness, even when it is unpopular. Reuben reminds us that
silence in the face of evil is dangerous. The truth must never be postponed.
Prayer:
Father, give me the courage to speak up and never keep quiet when I should stand for what is
right.
