true identity

Scripture Focus: Hebrews 11:24–25
“By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s
daughter; choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures
of sin for a season.”
Moses knew exactly who he was. He was raised in Pharaoh’s palace with every privilege,
power, and pleasure within his reach, yet, he still chose to identify as an Israelite, God’s
covenant people, over the glittering life of an Egyptian prince. This was no small decision; it
meant exchanging influence for obscurity, comfort for hardship, and pleasure for pain. It is likely
that his mother’s intentional input during his early years played a huge role in shaping this
identity.
This decision mirrors the heart of Christ Himself, leaving the glory of heaven to identify with
fallen humanity, walking among us, and ultimately dying to save us. Your true identity is not
found in where you live, the family you come from, or the comforts you enjoy, but in who you are
in Christ. The world will offer temporary pleasures, but purpose always outweighs comfort. Like
Moses, choose God’s people, God’s ways, and God’s purpose, because the reward of
obedience lasts forever.
Prayer: Lord, help me to stand firm in my identity in You and to choose eternal purpose over
temporary pleasure. Amen.
