Scripture Focus: “Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you…” Exodus 12:13 NKJV
The night of the Passover was the most decisive moment in Israel’s deliverance. God instructed every household to take a lamb without blemish, kill it, and put its blood on the doorposts. When the angel of death passed through Egypt, he would spare every house marked by the blood. It wasn’t about who was inside the house, their nationality, or even their moral standing; it was only about the blood. This points us directly to Jesus Christ, the spotless Lamb of God, whose blood redeems us from sin and death. Just as the Israelites could not afford to ignore or alter God’s instructions, we too must take God’s salvation seriously. The blood of Jesus is not a casual detail in the story of redemption; it is the very reason death has no claim over us. Without it, there is no deliverance. The blood had to be applied with hyssop, showing us that faith is the instrument that connects us to the power of Christ’s blood.
Beyond applying the blood, God gave specific instructions: the lamb had to be roasted, eaten in haste, and none of it wasted. Every detail carried weight, teaching Israel that deliverance required obedience, preparation, and participation. The Passover was not just about escaping Egypt, it was about starting a new life under God’s covenant. Today, the message is clear: salvation is free but not careless. We are called to live with urgency, purity, and full obedience to God’s Word. Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us, but if we choose to live outside His covering, we expose ourselves to destruction. Just as Israel could not negotiate another way of escape, we too cannot choose alternatives to the cross. The only way is through the blood of Jesus. Let us live each day with gratitude and confidence, knowing that the blood still speaks for us and guarantees our eternal deliverance.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for being my Passover Lamb. Help me live daily in the covering of Your blood, in full obedience to Your Word. Amen.
