Honor always

Scripture Focus: “So Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, bowed down, and kissed him. And they asked each other about their well-being, and they went into the tent.” Exodus 18:7 NKJV

Moses was not an ordinary man at this point in his life, he was the leader of over two million people, the man God used to humble Pharaoh, split the Red Sea, and bring Israel out of bondage. Yet, when Jethro, his father-in-law, arrived, the Bible says Moses went out to meet him, bowed down, and kissed him. This was not just a casual greeting; it was a deep show of honor. Moses could have felt superior to Jethro, who was merely a Midianite priest leading a household compared to Moses leading a nation. Instead, Moses demonstrated humility, respect, and gratitude. Leadership did not make him proud; instead, it magnified his honor for others.

In many cultures, people look down on their in-laws or older relatives, sometimes treating them as burdens rather than blessings. Sadly, even among believers, pride and disrespect have destroyed family harmony. Moses teaches us that true greatness is never expressed in pride, but in humility. The size of your achievements does not excuse you from showing respect. If Moses, the deliverer of Israel, could bow before his father-in-law, then we too must honor those God has placed in our families, parents, in-laws, and elders. Respect is not weakness; it is strength under control. Moreover, God honors those who walk in humility, because humility reflects His character. If you have struggled with dishonoring attitudes in your home, this is a call to repentance and change. Let your leadership, your success, or your position never rob you of the grace of honour.

Prayer: Lord, help me to walk in humility like Moses. Teach me to honor my parents, in-laws, and elders with respect, no matter my position or achievements. Amen.
