Scripture Focus: Genesis 46:33-34
“…when Pharaoh shall call you, and shall say, What is your occupation?… ye shall say, Thy
servants’ trade hath been about cattle… for every shepherd is an abomination unto the
Egyptians.”
Joseph, though second in command in Egypt, was not ashamed to identify with his brothers and
their occupation. Egyptians despised shepherds, yet Joseph openly told Pharaoh that his
brothers were shepherds and instructed them to say the same. This was a bold stand in a
culture that saw shepherds as unrefined and unworthy. It is a reminder that no level of success
or education should make you ashamed of your roots or those God has placed in your life. In a
world that often pressures people to hide their faith, their humble beginnings, or their family
background, Joseph’s example teaches us to remain authentic and loyal.
Never allow the fear of human opinion to make you deny your identity in Christ or distance
yourself from those you love. Some people forget their parents, mentors, or brethren when they
climb higher in life, but Joseph’s story shows us that greatness is not measured by how far we
move away from our roots, but by how faithfully we represent them. Just as Joseph stood with
his brothers despite their despised status, stand boldly with Christ even when the world mocks
Him and despise His ways.
Prayer: Lord, keep me humble and loyal. May I never be ashamed of You or those You have
placed in my life. Amen.
