Scripture Focus: Genesis 13:8-9; Matthew 5:9
Despite being the elder and the one whom God had called, Abram humbled himself and
referred to Lot as his brother rather than his nephew. When strife arose between their
herdsmen, Abram did not insist on his rights or claim superiority. Instead, he allowed Lot to
choose first, prioritizing peace over possession (Genesis 13:8-9). He trusted that what God had
for him could never be taken away by man.
As believers, we must ask ourselves: How far are we willing to go for peace? In a world that
teaches self-interest, Abram’s attitude is a powerful lesson. True faith rests in God’s ability to
provide, rather than in forcefully taking what seems best. Those who trust God do not have to
grab or fight for what is already theirs in Christ. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be
called the children of God (Matthew 5:9).
Prayer: Lord, help me to prioritize peace over possessions. Teach me to trust in Your provision
and not strive in my own strength. Amen.
