Scripture Focus: Genesis 26:34 to 35; Proverbs 29:15
“And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and
Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite: which were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to
Rebekah.” (Genesis 26:34 to 35). Esau took wives for himself without counsel or direction.
Unlike Isaac, whose marriage was guided by Abraham and the leading of the Lord, Esau acted
on his own and married outside the covenant family. This brought sorrow to his parents.
Isaac loved Esau, but there is no record of him correcting him. It is dangerous when love for a
child blinds a parent to that child’s faults. Esau’s actions show what happens when spiritual
oversight is missing. The failure to pass down godly order resulted in grief and compromise.
Parental love must never override godly discipline. Raising children demands more than
affection, it requires guidance, boundaries, and accountability. Train up a child in the way he
should go. Do not delay correction in the name of love. What you ignore today may grow into
grief tomorrow.
Prayer:
Lord, help me lead and train those under my care with love and truth. Amen.
