Don’t Copy, Hear God for Yourself

Scripture Focus: Genesis 26:1 to 2; Genesis 46:3 to 4
When famine struck, Isaac was about to head to Egypt, just like his father Abraham once did.
But God stopped him. “Do not go down to Egypt… stay where I show you.” Interestingly, when
famine came in Jacob’s time, God told him to go to Egypt. Same crisis, different instructions.
That’s the mystery of walking with God. He doesn’t lead everyone the same way, even in similar

situations. What worked for Abraham was not permitted for Isaac. What was forbidden for Isaac
was commanded for Jacob. The key is simple. Hear God for yourself.
Don’t copy just because it worked for someone else. Obedience is not one size fits all. God’s
direction is personal. Abraham’s move to Egypt caused generational complications. But Isaac’s
obedience brought prosperity in the same land others were fleeing. Stop leaning on patterns.
Start leaning on His voice. It’s not about what’s common. It’s about what’s commanded. Your
journey is unique. Hear God and follow Him alone.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to seek Your voice above popular opinions or familiar paths. Help me not to
copy others, but to walk faithfully in the instructions You give me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
