Scripture Focus:
“Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and
with men, and have prevailed.” Genesis 32:28
Jacob’s name had been changed. He had encountered God. Yet, just a few verses later, we see
him making flawed decisions. He settled in Shechem, a place God never told him to stay. He
still feared Esau. He still schemed. Clearly, although his name changed instantly, his nature and
choices took time to align with his new identity.
This is how God works in us. Salvation may happen in a moment, but sanctification is a journey.
After receiving a word from God, you don’t immediately become flawless. You still wrestle with
habits, insecurities, or fears. But God doesn’t give up on you, He walks with you through every
stage of growth.
Don’t be discouraged if your walk doesn’t look perfect after your encounter. You are becoming.
You are evolving. Like Jacob, your story is still unfolding. The name has changed, the blessing
has been released, and now the journey continues. Keep trusting.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for changing my name. Give me grace to grow into the fullness of who You’ve
called me to be. Amen.
