Holy Disobedience

Scripture Focus: Exodus 1:16-17
“…when ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women… if it be a son, then ye shall kill
him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live. But the midwives feared God, and did not as the
king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.”

Pharaoh commanded the midwives to kill every male child born to the Hebrews, a law that was
both cruel and demonic. Yet the midwives feared God more than they feared the king, and they
refused to obey. This was not rebellion for its own sake; it was an act of righteousness, a stand
for God’s law above man’s law. Their choice shows us that not every government decree is to
be followed. When human laws contradict God’s Word, the believer’s loyalty must be to
heaven’s authority first.
There will be moments when obeying God means saying “no” to what is legal but ungodly. Such
defiance is not sin; it is holy disobedience. We must be discerning and courageous, willing to
risk comfort, position, or even safety for the sake of righteousness. Like the midwives, fear God
more than man, and trust Him to honour your stand.
Prayer: Lord, give me the courage to stand for Your truth, even when it means defying man’s
commands. Amen.
