If It Must Be a Sign, Let It Be Impossible

Scripture Focus: Genesis 24:14; Romans 8:14
When Abraham’s servant prayed, he didn’t ask for something ordinary. He asked for the
impossible. He didn’t say, “Let the woman give me water.” That was easy. He said, “Let her
offer to water my camels too.” That meant drawing water for ten thirsty camels, an exhausting
task even for a strong man. He wasn’t looking for convenience. He was looking for confirmation
that only God could orchestrate. If you must ask for a sign, let it be something that only God can
pull off. Don’t look for what could happen naturally. Ask for the supernatural, not to test God, but
to trust Him with specificity.
But here is the balance. We are not meant to live on signs. Signs can support faith, but they
should never replace spiritual sensitivity. I remember asking God for an impossible sign when I
prayed about my wife, one that made no human sense. Yet He honored it. Why? Because I
wasn’t chasing feelings. I was seeking His will. But even in that, I knew signs could fail. The
Bible says those who are led by the Spirit are the sons of God, not those led by signs. So pray,
discern, and follow the Spirit. Signs may guide, but the Spirit leads. Never get it twisted.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to seek You beyond what my eyes can see. Help me trust Your voice and not
just the signs around me. May I be led by Your Spirit and rest in the confidence that You guide
my steps. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
