Lead at home before you lead a nation

Scripture Focus: “At a lodging place on the way the Lord met Moses and was about to kill him. But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son’s foreskin and touched Moses’ feet with it.” Exodus 4:24-25

Moses had been chosen to lead Israel, yet God stopped him on the way and nearly struck him down. Why? Because the covenant of circumcision had not been carried out in his own family. How can a man lead a nation in covenant with God if he has not enforced that covenant at home? Leadership begins at home. If you cannot guide your family, you are not ready to guide God’s people. Paul echoed this when he wrote that anyone who aspires to lead in God’s house must first “manage his own household well.”

But God in His mercy used Zipporah, who had been reluctant about circumcision, to bring obedience. She circumcised their son, touched Moses with the blood, and he was spared. The blood covered him, and then he was ready to step into destiny. This is a sobering reminder that you cannot bypass obedience in your private life and expect to succeed in public ministry. And yet, even when we fail, the blood speaks, covers and makes us qualified.

Prayer: Lord, help me to lead faithfully at home. Teach me to walk in private obedience before seeking public assignments. I thank You for the blood that speaks mercy over my failures and prepares me for purpose. Amen.
