Learn to Listen to God

Scripture Focus: Genesis 21:10 to 12; Proverbs 3:5 to 6
Abraham once listened to Sarah and made a costly mistake. Instead of seeking God, he
followed her advice and slept with Hagar. The result was Ishmael, born out of human reasoning,
not divine instruction. But in Genesis 21, Sarah spoke again. This time telling Abraham to send
Hagar and her son away. Abraham was troubled, but something had changed. He didn’t just act
on her words; he brought the matter before God. And God said, “Listen to Sarah.”
The lesson here is powerful. The key is not in who gave the advice; it’s in whether you’ve heard
from God about it. People may speak from emotion, frustration, or even good intention. But until
you take that counsel back to God, it is not safe to run with it. Abraham learned to check with
heaven before acting on earth. Let that be your posture this month. Open your heart to God.
Listen to advice, but only move when heaven speaks. The voices of men can mislead, but the
voice of God will never fail.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to pause and seek You before I act. Let me not follow voices without Your
confirmation. Guide my steps and speak clearly to my heart. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
