Scripture Focus: Genesis 25:22 to 23; Galatians 5:16 to 17
Even before they were born, Jacob and Esau struggled within Rebekah’s womb, a picture of the
constant battle between the spirit and the flesh. Esau, the elder, represents the flesh, the first to
appear, driven by appetite and impulse. Jacob, the younger, represents the spirit, the one
chosen by God to carry the promise. And just like in their story, there’s a war going on inside
every believer. The flesh wants control, but God’s agenda is clear. The older must serve the
younger. The flesh must bow to the spirit.
You were born in the flesh, but reborn in the Spirit. Now the divine order must take its place. Let
your spirit rule. Don’t let the appetite of the old man dominate your decisions. The struggle is
real, but so is the victory. God didn’t leave you helpless. He gave you His Spirit so you can win.
Let the spirit grow stronger. Feed it. Obey it. Choose it daily. That’s how you live above the pull
of the flesh. That’s how the younger rules.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to walk in the Spirit and not fulfill the desires of the flesh. Let Your divine order be
established in me. May my spirit grow stronger every day and lead me in Your will. In Jesus’
name. Amen.
