Scripture Focus: Genesis 13:14; Isaiah 1:19
When God called Abram in Genesis 12:1, He instructed him to leave his country, his relatives,
and his father’s house. However, Abram brought Lot along. While it seemed like a kind gesture,
it later caused him many troubles, strife between their herdsmen, separation, and eventually,
the need to rescue Lot from captivity (Genesis 14:12-16). Partial obedience is still disobedience,
and it often leads to unnecessary struggles.
God’s instructions are always precise, and when we alter them, even slightly, we risk
complications that could have been avoided. Abram did not fully step into the next phase of
God’s plan until after he and Lot separated (Genesis 13:14). Many times, we hold on to things
or people that God has asked us to let go of, and it hinders our progress. When God speaks,
obey thoroughly. His wisdom is greater than our emotions.
Prayer: Lord, help me to follow Your instructions completely. Give me the courage to let go of
anything or anyone that hinders Your plan for my life. Amen.
