Scripture Focus:
“And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many
days.” Genesis 37:34
Jacob had once deceived his blind father, Isaac, and now he was deceived by his own sons.
Years ago, he tricked Isaac into giving him the blessing meant for Esau. Now, his sons dipped
Joseph’s coat in blood and presented it as evidence of death. The same Jacob who once used
goat skin to deceive was now deceived with goat’s blood. The cycle had come full circle. His
grief was deep, and for thirteen years, he mourned a son who wasn’t dead. The consequences
of past choices don’t always show up immediately, but when they do, they often come back
stronger.
We must not live only for today. Every decision you make has a future. Jacob’s actions sowed
seeds that later brought sorrow. The Holy Spirit leads us to live wisely with eternity in view. He
helps us escape the traps of shortsightedness. Living from tomorrow means seeing the end
before taking the next step. God wants you to break destructive cycles, not continue them. Let
Him guide your decisions so your future does not become a painful harvest of past mistakes.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to make decisions with tomorrow in mind. Help me live a life that will not lead to
regret.
