Scripture Focus: Genesis 29:30 to 31; Proverbs 7:21 to 23
Jacob did not love Leah, yet he still slept with her. The Bible is clear: “He went in also unto
Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah…” (Genesis 29:30). Leah became a wife
through deception, but even after that, Jacob continued to be intimate with her though his heart
remained with Rachel. This exposes a painful truth that still exists today: sex is not always tied
to love. A man can be physically involved without emotional commitment. Many women have
confused intimacy for affection, only to end up hurt and abandoned.
Leah was not the first or last woman to live in that tension. But Scripture teaches us not to
confuse attention with love, or physical acts with true covenant. Real love values, commits, and
honors, it does not just take. A wise woman does not measure love by words or moments of
affection, but by consistency, sacrifice, and alignment with God’s Word. And for men, this is a
call to integrity: do not take what you are not ready to truly value. Let your body, words, and
heart all say the same thing.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to value love as You define it. Help me walk in truth and not deception. Amen.
