Scripture Focus:
“These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock
with his brethren… and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report.” Genesis 37:2
Joseph was only seventeen when Scripture first introduced his character, not as a prophet, a
preacher, or a dreamer, but as someone faithfully working in his father’s field and bold enough
to report wrongdoing. He was surrounded by brothers whose lives were not exactly models of
godliness. Yet, rather than copy them or keep quiet, Joseph chose to speak up. He brought their
evil report to his father.
Many people dislike those who report bad behavior, often branding them as disloyal or self-
righteous. But the issue is not about reporting, the issue is motive. If your motive is to tear down,
gossip, or destroy someone’s image, then you are wrong. But if your motive is correction,
accountability, and righteousness, then silence becomes complicity. Joseph’s act was not
condemned, God trusted him with more because he proved himself faithful in a little. Stand for
truth, even when it makes you unpopular.
Prayer:
Father, give me the courage to stand for righteousness. Help me speak up when it matters, not
with pride, but with love and integrity.
