Spiritual insight

Scripture Focus: Genesis 48:19…
“I know, my son, I know. He too will become a people, and he too will become great.
Nevertheless, his younger brother will be greater than he, and his descendants will become a
group of nations.”
When Joseph brought his sons to Jacob for a blessing, he carefully positioned Manasseh, the
firstborn, at Jacob’s right hand and Ephraim at his left. But Jacob, led by God, crossed his
hands, placing his right hand on Ephraim, the younger. Joseph protested, but Jacob insisted,
revealing that the younger would surpass the elder in greatness. This moment reminds us that
God’s choice is not bound by human tradition, birth order, or expectation.

Jacob’s physical eyes were dim, but his spiritual sight was sharp. As upright as Joseph was, he
could not sense what was happening spiritually in that moment. Isaac’s eyes were also dim in
his old age, but his spiritual sight had grown dull, he was misled by the taste of a meal and the
feel of a garment. Jacob was different. He was not swayed by fleshly appetites or human
reasoning. His blessing was not for sale for a pot of soup; it was a Spirit-led decision that
honoured God’s plan. Man often honours position; God honours purpose. Trust His wisdom,
even when you don’t understand.
Prayer: Father, help me to honour Your choices even when they differ from mine, and to trust
Your wisdom above my expectations. Amen.
