stop looking; start acting

Scripture Focus:

“Why do ye look one upon another? Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you
down thither…” Genesis 42:1–2
The famine had reached Canaan, and hunger was everywhere, yet Jacob’s sons just sat
around, doing nothing. It took Jacob’s voice to shake them out of passivity. “Why are you
looking at each other?” he asked. In moments of crisis, in times of spiritual dryness, it is
dangerous to remain inactive. Sometimes, the difference between survival and death is a single
step of obedience.
You need people in your life who can challenge your inactivity, people who can call you out
when you’re coasting and push you when you’re hesitant. Don’t surround yourself with
spectators who watch life pass by. Surround yourself with voices that stir up your purpose. And
don’t just hear them, act. Your next move may be the key to your breakthrough.
Prayer:
Lord, deliver me from passivity. Send me voices that will stir me to action, and give me the
courage to act.
