take off your shoes

Scripture Focus: “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place
where you are standing is holy ground.” – Exodus 3:5
In ancient times, removing your shoes before entering someone’s house was a mark of deep
respect and humility. It was a way of saying, “I honour you. I acknowledge your authority here.”

So when God told Moses to take off his sandals, He was calling Moses to give Him the highest
honour, to recognise that he was standing in the very house and presence of the King of kings.
Today, God’s presence is no longer confined to a place, it is with us always. That means we
don’t just take off our “shoes” for a moment; we keep them off. Not literally, but in the posture of
our hearts, living in continuous humility, deep reverence, and conscious honour for His
presence. If we truly believe He is with us everywhere, then every step, every word, and every
action should carry the weight of that holy awareness.
Prayer: Lord, help me to live with my “shoes off”, always honouring You with a humble heart in
every moment. Amen.
