Scripture Focus:
“And He said, ‘What is your name?’ And he said, ‘Jacob.'” Genesis 32:27
The angel knew Jacob’s name. This question wasn’t about information, it was about
transformation. Before God can change you, He requires honesty. “What is your name?” meant
“Who have you been? What is your identity? What are you carrying?” And Jacob answered, “I
am Jacob”; the grabber, the supplanter, the schemer. No excuses. No long story. No blame-
shifting. Just raw truth.
Until then, he had lied, schemed, and hidden behind tricks, but now he was ready to admit his
real condition. That was all God needed. The moment Jacob admitted the truth, the blessing
was released. His name changed. His identity shifted. This is the pattern of Go; He blesses
brokenness, not pretense. He exalts the humble. He draws near to the contrite. Many people
come before God performing rather than confessing. But until you can admit who you are and
where you’ve failed, the true blessing may remain locked. Be honest with God. Be open with the
One who already sees all. That’s how transformation begins.
Prayer:
Lord, I come without pretense. You see my heart, heal me, change me, and bless me as I
surrender in truth. Amen.
