Scripture Focus: Genesis 12:1-4; Matthew 16:24-25
When God called Abraham, He instructed him to leave his father’s house and go to a land He
would show him. Abraham obeyed, leaving behind his comfort and familiarity. This act of
obedience demonstrates the cost of discipleship, forsaking all else to follow God’s will. For
Abraham, it meant leaving his home and later being willing to sacrifice Isaac, his beloved son.
Through it all, Abraham showed that God held the highest place in his heart, above any person
or possession.
Discipleship requires prioritizing God above everything else. He doesn’t share His glory or
accept second place in our lives. Following Him often demands sacrifice, but it leads to the
fulfillment of His purpose and blessings beyond measure. Are you willing to pay the price of
discipleship by letting go of anything that competes with God’s place in your heart?
Prayer: Lord, help me to prioritize You above all else. Teach me to trust Your plans, even when
they require sacrifice, and to follow You wholeheartedly. Amen.
