The Danger of Looking Back

Scripture Focus: Genesis 19:26; Luke 17:32 to 34

Lot’s wife was physically leaving Sodom, but her heart never left. This is why she looked back. Her treasure was still in the city, and because her heart remained there, she could not fully embrace the salvation God was offering. Looking back was not just about sight—it was about longing for what she had left behind.

Jesus warned, “Remember Lot’s wife” (Luke 17:32). Looking back represents distraction and divided loyalty. It is dangerous to follow God while longing for the world. Even in the same household, not everyone will be saved. “One will be taken, and the other left” (Luke 17:34). Salvation is personal. If your treasure is in Christ, you will not look back. Fix your heart on Him, for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to fix my heart on You alone. Keep me from looking back with longing at the things You have called me to leave behind. Let my loyalty be fully Yours. Amen.
