The Danger of Moral Compromise

Scripture Focus: Genesis 19:6 to 8; Romans 12:2

Lot had lived in Sodom for so long that its corruption had shaped his thinking. When the wicked men of the city surrounded his house he did something unthinkable. He offered his own daughters to them in an attempt to protect the strangers under his roof. How far he had fallen. Instead of leading his home in righteousness he had adopted the twisted values of Sodom.

Contrast this with Abraham. When Lot was in danger in Genesis 14 Abraham risked everything to rescue him. Abraham fought for Lot’s life but Lot was willing to sacrifice his own family to protect strangers. This is what happens when a believer becomes too comfortable in a sinful environment. Over time moral compromise becomes normal. We must be careful not to let the world shape our thinking. God calls us to be set apart.

Prayer:

Lord keep my heart from compromise. Help me to live by Your truth even in a corrupt world. Let me never value the approval of men over obedience to You. Amen.
