Scripture Focus: Genesis 28:16 to 17; Psalm 84:1 to 2
When Jacob awoke from his dream, he said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I knew it not…
this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” (Genesis 28:16 to 17).
He had just received massive promises from God; about land, descendants, and divine
protection. But what struck him most was the overwhelming presence of God. That place
became Bethel, meaning “House of God.” It was not about a building. It was about God’s
presence.
This is the first clear moment in Scripture where a location is referred to as the house of God,
and the only reason it carried that name was because God was there. A true house of God is
not defined by music, lights, or popularity. It is defined by the presence of the Lord. If there is no
encounter, no presence, no voice from heaven, then it is not the house of God, no matter what
sign is outside. Let your heart long for His presence. Let your life and gathering place be filled
with Him. Without Him, it is just a space.
Prayer:
Lord, let my life and my church be a place where You truly dwell. Amen.
