Scripture Focus: Genesis 18:19; Deuteronomy 6:6 to 7
God did not choose Abraham just to bless him. He chose him because He knew Abraham would raise his children and his household to follow the way of the Lord. “For I have chosen him so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him” (Genesis 18:19).
God had a part to play in fulfilling His promises but Abraham had a part to play too. Raising his children in righteousness was key to securing the covenant. This is still true today. God’s promises often come with responsibilities. Many want to claim blessings but ignore the instructions that come with them. Parents have a role in shaping the next generation. What we pass on to them determines how God’s purposes unfold in our lineage.
Prayer:
Lord help me to walk in obedience so that I may see the fulfillment of Your promises in my life and in generations to come. Teach me to raise those around me in righteousness. Amen.
