True Worship

Scripture Focus: Genesis 22:5; Romans 12:1
The first time the word “worship” appears in the Bible is in Genesis 22, when Abraham told his
servants, “Stay here… the boy and I will go over there to worship.” He wasn’t going with musical
instruments. He wasn’t going to sing. He was going to surrender, offering up the son he loved
most. That’s what worship really is. Worship is not just about the songs we sing. It’s about the
will we lay down. The deepest form of worship is obedience, especially when it costs you
something.
True worship means presenting your life as a living sacrifice. Abraham called it worship; God
called it reverence. He said, “Now I know that you fear Me.” This is what it means to fear the
Lord, not to tremble, but to reverence Him so deeply that nothing is too valuable to surrender.
So the next time you say you’re going to worship, don’t just think of melodies and music. Think
of surrender. Think of obedience. That’s what moves God most.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to worship You with more than words. Help me surrender what I love most and
lay my will at Your feet. Let my life be a song of obedience to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
