Scripture Focus: “The Lord said to him, ‘What is that in your hand?’ ‘A staff,’ he replied. The
Lord said, ‘Throw it on the ground.’ Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he
ran from it.” Exodus 4:2-3
When God called Moses, He did not hand him something new. He asked, “What is in your
hand?” The ordinary staff that Moses had carried as a shepherd was the same tool God
transformed into a sign of His power. This is God’s way: He often begins with what we already
have. Too many times we think we need a new skill, a new opportunity, or a new stage before
God can use us. But the truth is, the very thing in your hand today, the gift, the job, the voice,
the influence, can become a weapon of divine purpose when surrendered to Him.
Moses also learned another lesson: victory is not found in fear but in obedience. He picked up
the serpent by the tail, something no human would dare to do, and God turned it back into a
staff. In the same way, God asks us to trust Him with what seems dangerous or impossible, to
obey even when it doesn’t make sense. When we do, He proves that He is greater than our
fears. So, look at your hand today. What has God placed there? When surrendered, even the
most ordinary thing can display extraordinary power.
Prayer: Father, open my eyes to see what You have placed in my hand. Teach me to surrender
it completely to You, and help me to obey even when I am afraid. Use my ordinary life to display
Your extraordinary power. Amen.
