You Don’t Have to Act What You Think

Scripture Focus:
“And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against
him to slay him.” – Genesis 37:18
Sin begins as a thought. Joseph’s brothers didn’t kill him in a moment of rage, they saw him
coming from a distance and plotted. They had time to rethink, to repent, to walk away. But they
didn’t. This is how sin grows: it begins as a suggestion, then lingers until it becomes a plan.

When we allow wrong thoughts to stay, they eventually take over and push us into wrong
actions.
This is why you must be vigilant about your thought life. You can’t always control what comes to
mind, but you can decide what stays. The Word of God is your filter. Hebrews 4:12 says it
divides between soul and spirit. With it, you’ll discern which thoughts are from God and which
are from your flesh or the devil. Joseph’s brothers followed their thoughts, but you don’t have to.
You can stop sin before it ever starts.
Prayer:
Father, help me to catch every evil thought before it grows. Give me discernment and grace to
think, speak, and act according to Your Word.
